Director of Marketing
The Director of Marketing is responsible for leading the strategic direction and execution of all marketing initiatives for Trefethen Family Vineyards. As the steward of the Trefethen brand, this role develops long-term brand strategy while overseeing integrated marketing efforts that drive awareness, engagement, and growth across direct-to-consumer, hospitality, outbound, and wholesale channels.
Working closely with ownership, the winemaking team, Direct-to-Consumer, Sales, and external agency partners, the Director of Marketing ensures that every consumer and trade touchpoint reflects the quality, authenticity, and legacy of the Trefethen brand. This role combines strategic leadership, creative vision, analytical decision-making, and team development to elevate the brand and support business objectives.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Brand Strategy & Leadership
- Lead the development and execution of short- and long-term brand strategy, including one-year, three-year, and five-year planning.
- Translate consumer insights, market trends, and business objectives into compelling brand positioning and storytelling.
- Serve as the creative lead for packaging, brand identity, and visual design initiatives while maintaining brand consistency across all consumer and trade touchpoints.
- Lead and execute brand refresh initiatives across all marketing channels.
- Direct creative production including photography, video, brand campaigns, and social media content in partnership with the Marketing Coordinator and external creative partners.
Marketing Campaigns & Digital Strategy
- Develop and oversee integrated marketing campaigns across email, SMS, website, social media, public relations, advertising, and other digital channels.
- Partner with agencies to develop content and execute campaigns that support business objectives.
- Define, monitor, and report on key marketing performance indicators, optimizing campaigns based on performance and consumer insights.
- Oversee website content, functionality, and overall digital brand presence to ensure a best-in-class customer experience.
Agency & Industry Partnerships
- Manage relationships with external marketing, creative, digital, and public relations agencies.
- Serve as the primary marketing liaison with industry organizations including Napa Valley Vintners (NVV), Visit Napa Valley (VNV), and other strategic partners.
- Coordinate media, trade, and influencer visits to the winery.
- Oversee product sampling programs in collaboration with the Marketing Coordinator.
Direct-to-Consumer & Wholesale Marketing Support
- Partner with Hospitality, Outbound, and Sales teams to develop marketing initiatives that support business goals across all channels.
- Oversee the creation of wholesale marketing resources including sell sheets, point-of-sale materials, promotional items, and sales presentations.
- Manage the trade portal, ensuring marketing materials remain current and inventory levels are maintained.
- Oversee the production of club newsletters and consumer communications.
- Guide the development and production of print collateral and branded marketing materials.
Team Leadership & Budget Management
- Lead, mentor, and develop the Marketing Coordinator while fostering a collaborative, creative, and high-performing team environment.
- Manage the annual marketing budget, including forecasting, planning, vendor management, and performance reporting.
- Establish priorities and ensure projects are delivered on time and within budget.
Ideal candidates for this position will possess the following:
- Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Business, Communications, or a related field required.
- Minimum of 8–10 years of progressive marketing leadership experience, preferably within the wine, luxury, hospitality, or consumer lifestyle industries.
- Minimum of three years of wine industry marketing experience required.
- Demonstrated experience developing brand strategy and executing integrated marketing campaigns across digital, direct-to-consumer, and wholesale channels.
- Experience managing agencies, creative partners, budgets, and cross-functional teams.
- Strong understanding of consumer insights, market research, and data-driven marketing.
- Excellent written, verbal, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Exceptional project management, organizational, and leadership abilities.
- Strong financial acumen, including budget planning, forecasting, and reporting.
- Ability to balance strategic thinking with hands-on execution in a collaborative environment.
- Passion for premium wine, hospitality, and creating exceptional brand experiences.
- Willingness to work occasional evenings, weekends, and winery events.
Physical Requirements
- Operate a desktop computer using keyboard and mouse, employing repetitive arm and wrist motions.
- Manual dexterity sufficient to reach, handle, and manipulate objects.
- Specific vision abilities include close and distance vision.
- Sit and/or stand for extended periods of time.
- Occasionally lift and/or move objects weighing up to 25 pounds.
- Occasionally bend, stoop, reach, kneel, crouch, or climb stairs.

Compensation & Benefits
Pay Transparency Disclosure: The salary range for this position is $145,000–$160,000 annually, plus eligibility for an annual bonus. This salary range represents what we reasonably expect to pay for this position. However, the actual salary offered will depend upon job-related factors such as overall qualifications, skills, experience, education, and internal equity. The Company reserves the right to modify the range at any time.
